念白：1900年春，八国联军发动战争，瓜分中国。8月14日，北京城彻底沦陷。所到之处，滥杀、强奸、抢劫、烧毁无恶不作。战火持续到次年9月7日，生灵涂炭。

Narrator: In the spring of 1900, the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded China. On August 14th, Beijing was completely shrouded in war. Indiscriminate killing, rape, robbery flooded the streets. The war continued until September 7 of the following year. Countless people died in this war.

朱子淳：”戏园子还没收拾整齐。国家要重整河山，我们也得重整河山。但只怕……这国家的河山是整不起来了。“

朱子没：“二哥一心唱戏便是。国家的事，自有人……“

朱子淳：【打断朱子没的话】“不可，不可。【看向朱子没正缝着的衣服】是新的行头？”

朱子没：【缝衣服】“是……歇着无事，给二哥做身新的。“

朱子淳：【长叹】“唉，恐怕你二哥是用不上这身行头了！”

【Albert上】

Mabel: “My lady, the lord is back.” 【译：小姐，少将回来了。】

Narrator: Brenda, Edward and Claire met many officers from Britain, Germany, and France. Claire finally found a way to escape from all the dinner parties and ran out of the embassy.

朱子没：（略恼怒地）“前些日子二哥还说要重整戏园的河山，怎么如今却撒手不管了！“

朱子淳：【低声地】“二哥正要和你说此事。只是……“

朱子没：【打断朱子淳的话】“小妹听着了！”

朱子淳：（真诚地）“三妹，你替二哥唱吧。“

朱子没：（震惊地）“什……这怎么成！抛头露面的！“

朱子淳：（为难地）“不然谁来唱！“

朱子没：【委屈地，抓住朱子淳的衣袖】“二哥不能不走吗？“

朱子淳：【略恼怒地，甩开朱子没的手】“不能！”

朱琼：（严肃地）“安静！”

朱子没：（委屈地）“小妹知道了。”

朱子淳：（温柔地）“委屈你了。【停顿】切记不可给洋人唱戏，丧了自己的气节！“

念白：朱子淳打点好银两和衣裳，准备只身一人离开祖祖辈辈传下的戏园。连自己也不知道去做什么，但他知道唱戏打不倒洋老鹰。他该走了。

Narrator: Zichun packed up some money and clothes, and was about to leave the theater that passed down from generation to generation alone. He didn’t even figure out what to do, but he knew that singing cannot beat those invaders. It was time for him to leave.

场景：中国；城外

念白：Claire打定了主意，每周五，每周日晚上，偷偷溜出来见朱子没。渐渐的，这两晚成了两人最期待的时光。但朱子没却时常害怕，自己和洋人交好，是对的还是错的。

Narrator: Claire decides to slip out and sing with Zimuo Zhu every Friday and Sunday. Gradually, these two nights become the happiest time for them. However, Zimuo Zhu is still struggling whether it is right or not.

朱子没：”有什么大不了的！要抓就抓！要杀就杀！不准开门！”

【幕开】

Edward: 【站在门外】“Those inside！ 【声音拖长】This is Edward Hunter from the embassy.”【译：屋里的，听着，我是使馆的Edward Hunter。】

晏玠：“有什么废话！说完快滚！”

Edward: “You are honored to be invited to perform for General Collins in the embassy. Be sure to arrive in three days, at seven o’clock in the evening!”【译：你们很荣幸被邀请到使馆给Collins将军表演，请在三天后的晚上七点准时到达！】

晏玠：“你，可以走了。“

朱子没：【踱步】“Collins……是Claire家……“

晏玠：（略讽刺）“看上去，你的小情人，来找你了啊？”

晏玠：（正经）“怎么办？”

朱子没：“我不知道。“

朱子没：（愤怒）“她的父亲杀了无数中国人……”

晏玠：“所以呢？”

朱子没：（坚毅）“要是我去了……说不定能把他……”

晏玠：“师妹！”

朱子没：【眯眼看向晏玠】“师兄也是难得关心我……”

晏玠：【生气】“师兄就不能关心你了吗？师兄只是觉得你一女子已经抛头露面成这样了！实在是太不像话了！就算是想去砍他头，你砍的到吗？你下的去手吗？你忘了你二哥和你说不能去给洋人唱戏了吗？”

朱子没：【攥紧拳头】“无论能不能成，我也要试试！”

【枪声响，朱子没应声颤抖，捂住伤口倒下】

Claire: 【大喊】“Who shot her? 【冲向并抱住倒下地朱子没】Zimo!” 【译：谁开的枪！子没！】

朱子没：（有气无力）“也许是我罪有应得……”

Claire: （哭腔）“No! No! It’s not your fault! You didn’t do anything! You’ll be fine!” 【译：不，不，你没有错！你会好起来的！】
